5 Strengths and 5 Weaknesses

I found a little list to give me some more ideas of things to write about, and one of them recommended you write about your five strengths and weaknesses. I thought this would be a good idea since it’s such a common interview question, yet no one seems to know how to answer it. I also figure it’ll provide some more information about me for those of you who want to know more.

I've put this post in the tips section, because I'm hoping it'll give you some ideas to use on your own for interviews or any other situation where you might need to share some strengths/weaknesses. Also, I feel like the tips page hasn't been touched in a while, so I wanted to add some new content to it.

Strengths

1.       Organization

I am really organized. Growing up, this was not a trait I would assume I would develop, but I also didn’t think I’d develop anxiety either. That’s actually were this quality came from, I just became organized to have control over something in my life, since I can never control my panic attacks. I just really like having things clean and in order. I keep my stuff together, and I try to keep my life together.

2.       Small and Cute

This probably sounds dumb, but I promise you it has helped me get hired. When you’re small and cute, it makes you appear more friendly and approachable, which in turn makes people want to talk to and interact with you. You don’t have to worry about seeming intimidating when you’re pint-sized chub.

3.       Resourceful

I don’t always know everything, nor do I necessarily have that information readily available. But, I’m always one to go through whatever resources are available to get to where I need to be. My creativity and problem-solving skills kind of contribute to this one, and my strong desire to avoid human interaction means I will go through everything trying to find out the answer before turning to asking someone else (unless I know asking would be more efficient).

4.       Dedicated

In case my GPA hasn’t tipped you off on this one already, I can be really dedicated to what I do. I very much have the need to do well at things that I attempt, so I stay focused on tasks that need to be done. I don’t give up easily, and I try my best at what I do.

5.       Self-Aware

I think this is a good preface for my weaknesses, because it lets me point out how even though I have some things I need to work on, I know I need to work on them. My self-awareness keeps me to where there is always something I’m trying to improve about myself.

Weaknesses

1.       Communication

I don’t always word things in the best way, and sometimes I just won’t even mention things. It’s not that I’m trying to conceal stuff, I just don’t always think certain things are important to say. For example, my kitchen faucet as been broken for about a month or so now, have I said anything to anyone? Not ‘til just now…this is the first I’ve expressed this outside of my head. I mean, yeah, I should put in a maintenance request, but it still works, so I think it’s fine.

2.       Over explaining

Whether or not we’ve met in person, you’ve probably picked up that I do this. I don’t mean to, it just happens. I say something, and I immediately have to reword it or give twenty examples because I assume you don’t understand what I’m saying. You can tell me straight up that you get it, and I will continue explaining. Fortunately, this is a good quality for teaching, because it helps students understand material better (I learned this through first hand experience), but in daily life it can be quite a nuisance I’m sure.

3.       Meticulous

I am an artist, and I have anxiety, so I like every detail to be perfect (this blog is my exception since I’m trying not to let myself proof read it). This is really good when it comes to things like art, but in everyday life I don’t know where to draw the line. I would actually say I’m getting better at overcoming this one, but it is definitely still an issue.

4.       Unassertive

Plankton would be disappointed at my low level of assertiveness. I’m essentially SpongeBob in that episode where he lets himself get sat on. I can be aggressive, but I have a lot of trouble asserting myself appropriately. I even have frequent dreams about this where I’m at the front of a classroom, and I can’t get the students to quiet down because I’m too much of a pushover.

5.       Slow typer

No matter how many times I’ve gone through the Mavis Beacon typing program, I still have not been able to type quickly. Each of these posts take an hour or two to type, and it’s not because I don’t know what to say, I literally just cannot type quick enough to get my thoughts down. It really sucks since most of the world runs on computers now. You’d think being raised learning how to type since preschool, I’d have this down my now…but instead I still have to search the keyboard for certain letters sometimes.

Tips to Make a Paper Longer (using page length requirements)

When you get an essay or writing assignment, there are almost always minimum or maximum requirements, so your teacher can ensure you don’t submit either a sticky note, or a full-length book for your research paper on dragonflies or whatever. When teachers set these requirements, they usually base it on either word count or page count to keep student submissions fairly standard. But let’s be here, we’re not all English majors. Even when you are an English major, you don’t always care about the topic enough to be able to write that full 3-page or 1500 word minimum. That’s where this list comes in handy. Having lived through some of the dullest essays known to man, I have been able to pick up on some handy tricks that might just save you the next time you’re out of things to write. This post will specifically cover how to meet a page limit requirement. If your teacher gave you a word limit minimum, or if they have picked a set font, try my post on meeting word counts . Everyday Self-Care Products That Will Make Your Life Better

I have a lot of problems. Most of them are taking a lot of therapy and time to work on, but some of them were really simple to fix. I came across most of these solutions on accident, or through trial an error, so I’m hoping sharing this list will facilitate the lives of those of you who have similar problems. Chronic Greasy Hair My hair was always horribly greasy for most of my life. I started having to shower in the morning because if I showered at night, my hair would be a visibly greasy as soon as I woke up. Even showering in the morning wasn’t always enough. Most days my hair would already be greasy by the time I got home from school. At my worst I would shower in the morning and have to partially wash my hair again at night. Literally nothing I did helped. So, it surprised me when a couple months ago I started using this new shampoo that I got a sample of and noticed for the first time that my hair wasn’t a disaster by the end of the day anymore. It was apparently...

Review of The Hot Zone by Richard Preston

I wrote this a while back (it's actually my UNT Honors College admittance essay) and just came across it while browsing my computer. I thought it would be fun to post, so let me know your thoughts in the comments. Mr. Richard Preston,             I recently read your book, The Hot Zone , which I found intriguing in terms of the subject matter. However for a nonfiction piece it had misleading information and provided irrelevant detail. Subsequently, these factors make you out to be quite unprofessional. Therefore, I want to provide you with some input regarding your book, so you can avoid this reputation in the future.             I primarily want to address how misleading your writing is. As a nonfiction author, people rely on you to provide accurate information. Technically you do offer a good amount of truth, but it becomes obscured by your excessive guesswork ...
